The winter solstice occurs at 3:22 this afternoon. That makes this the shortest day of the year. The sun will rise at 7:17AM and set at 4:38PM, giving us 9 hours and 21 minutes of daylight. Now the days will slowly start to lengthen until we reach the summer solstice on June 21st. That day will be 5 hours and 38 minutes longer than today. (This is why we hang so many holiday lights at this time of the year–it distracts us from the lack of sunshine!)

State 38 Distilling’s holiday party will start at 3 this afternoon. They’ll be trying out the huge new custom-made smoker and serving free brisket, pulled pork, smoke sausage and BBQ chicken. They will also serve discounted holiday-themed cocktails and offering discounts on bottles.

The Jeffco Open Space Nature Journal Club will meet this evening from 5:30-8:30. They’ll be celebrating the Winter Solstice with a Journaling Night Hike. Learn more and register…
