The library is hosting the Golden Fleece Fiber Fellowship tonight from 5:30-7:30. If you have an ongoing project–sewing, knitting, crocheting, embroidering, spinning, weaving, etc.–bring it, and work in the company of others. If there’s something you would like to learn to do, this group can help get you started. All adults are welcome, and it’s free.
Tomorrow’s DIY lab at the library is intended for kids aged 6-10. They’ll be making vinyl decals to put on school supplies. 4-5:30PM.
The Planning Commission will meet tomorrow night at 6:30 in City Council Chambers. They will conduct three public hearings. The first concerns the expansion of a light industrial building at 830 Pine Ridge Road. The second will make the sustainability standards for new construction more stringent. The third is a final review of the North Clear Creek Neighborhoods Plan. This describes the plan for future changes in the area north of Clear Creek and south of Highway 58–that is, Goosetown and the 8th & 9th Street Historic District. The plan considers that at some point the CoorsTek building may be demolished and/or redeveloped. The City hopes to encourage low and middle income affordable housing in this neighborhood. One interesting and desirable addition to this plan is a suggestion to preserve “view sheds.” As Golden becomes more popular and more dense, it’s easy to imagine ever-taller buildings blocking existing views. I believe this is the first neighborhood plan to recognize this problem and attempt to address it.
