Golden History Moment

South Golden Road, 1981 – Golden Transcript, 7/28/1981 – enlarge

There was a lot of interest in yesterday’s article about South Golden Road’s transition from “cow pasture” to business district, so I thought I’d share the photo below, which gives a longer view of the same terrain, 50 years earlier.

Marcie Miller gave me this photo, in the form of a large print. The back of the photo says to Credit the Colorado Historical Society and has “1932” hand written.

Based on the map above, which is approximately the same vintage, I think that’s the intersection of what we’d now call “South Golden Road” and “Ulysses Street.” The railroad tracks that appear a bit higher on the mountain are the Denver & Intermountain, on its way to Pleasant View and Lakewood.

Thanks to the Golden History Museum for providing the online cache of historic Transcripts, and to the Golden Transcript for documenting our history since 1866!
