Golden History Moment

Southridge Park (map) – enlarge

The August 12, 1971 Golden Transcript reported that a planned rezoning hearing had been tabled. Developer Tri-B had presented a plan to build homes on almost four acres in the Southridge neighborhood. Two councilmen were negotiating the buy the property for use as a neighborhood park. The negotiation was successful: the City purchased the land the following October and it is now Southridge Park.

By that time, Tri-B had their sights on a much bigger project. The State of Colorado had just auctioned off the former farm property from the Lookout Mountain School. Tri-B had purchased 64 acres, which they planned to develop into a large apartment complex. That resulted in another rezoning request. It was granted in December of 1971, and the Lunnonhaus Village apartments (now called Summit View) opened in 1973.
