Well we’re certainly hearing a lot about Coronavirus/COVID-19. As of this writing (Thursday night), Jefferson County has 4 known cases and the patients are all quarantined.
Also as of Thursday night, the City of Golden has not canceled public meetings and the Jefferson County Libraries haven’t announced any closure plans, but by all means follow the links I’m providing, since new announcements are coming out frequently.
Jefferson County Public Schools will be closed next week, and the week after that is spring break.
The School of Mines has canceled in-person classes next week, though instructors will still be working with students remotely. The following week is spring break, and beginning March 30th, all instruction will be done remotely for the rest of the semester.
Miners Alley Playhouse was scheduled to open Moon Over Buffalo next week, but they have postponed the production (after paying the cast in full–very honorable).
The Buffalo Rose will close the performance venue for the next week, then reevaluate. This means that the Little Creatures, Mr. Majestyk, Once, Ana Popovic, and Winter Bluegrass shows are canceled. The restaurant and bar are still open, and they have live music scheduled tonight from 8-11PM (Korey Foss) and Saturday from 8-11PM (Bunny Blake).
The Jefferson Symphony has canceled their Sunday afternoon concert.
Golden Landmarks Association had scheduled two public meetings to discuss the Astor House–one of March 30th and one on April 4th. They have canceled the meetings, but will be moving the conversation online. Look for a quick survey coming next week!
OLLI (adult education) has canceled the Spring Term, which was scheduled to start on March 30th. For those of you who were planning to take my Golden History class this spring, that means we’re off for now and will try again in the fall.

Golden History Moment
The Lariat Loop Trail opened in 1914. There were few automobiles at that time, so most people who wanted to travel the road did it in a touring car with a professional driver. Notice the four (or possibly five) seats in the car above.
Bill Williams built the Lariat Loop Road and owned a fleet of touring automobiles, which he used to take tourists on excursions into the mountains. Note the sign on his garage that advertises trips to Lookout Mountain, Colorow Point, Genesse Mountain, Bear Creek, and Idaho Springs.
Question: That building is still there. Do you recognize it? Scroll down past Saturday’s events to see the answer.
