Golden History Moment

Golden Transcript – September 19, 1978 – click to enlarge

While Interstate 70 was completed as far west as Lookout Mountain by 1970, they were still adding refinements eight years later. The September 19, 1978 Golden Transcript reported that the Colorado Highway Department was building a runaway truck ramp just west of the Golden exit.

The signs saying “Runaway Vehicles Only” and “Truckers you are not down yet. Another 1-1/2 miles of steep grades and sharp curves to go” are now familiar sites.

Thanks to the Golden History Museum for providing the online cache of historic Transcripts, and to the Golden Transcript for documenting our history since 1866!
