Changes in the East Street Historic District

The Historic Preservation Board meets tonight at 6:30 in City Council Chambers. They will consider two cases in the East Street Historic District. The first requests a “certificate of appropriateness” for demolition of an existing 3/4 car garage and construction of a 1 car garage at 1519 East Street. The current garage is too small to contain a car.  The owners also plan an addition which will allow access to the house without going outside.

2215 Ford St. - Golden CO

The second case involves 2215 Ford Street. This property came before the board in August. The developer proposed to demolish an existing home and garage (which had been converted for use as an apartment) and replace it with six townhouses and six one car garages. The neighborhood strongly objected to the proposal on the basis of inappropriate massing and inadequate off-street parking. In addition, the neighbor to the north expressed concern about drainage into her property.  The new proposal calls for 3 townhomes rather than 6, and three 2-car garages.
