One of the things that makes Golden so livable is the 54,000 acres of Open Space that Jefferson County owns–much of it surrounding Golden itself. That didn’t happen by accident, nor was it without controversy. In 1972 a group of citizens, organized under the name “PLAN Jeffco,” organized and campaigned to establish a 1/2 of one percent sales tax in Jefferson County to fund open space acquisition. This volunteer group of still active in advocating for open space, advising the county, and working for additional open space acquisitions.

PLAN Jeffco will be celebrating their 45th anniversary tomorrow (Tuesday, August 29th) with a picnic at the Lookout Mountain Nature Center from 4-8PM. Plan to be there, to help them celebrate! Bring your own picnic or purchase BBQ, vegetarian food, and ice cream from food trucks. Learn more and register to let them know you plan to attend.

The Golden Bike Cruise is also tomorrow night.  The event starts at 6:00 p.m. with live music from local bands, beer from New Terrain Brewing, and food by Bob’s Atomic Burgers. Bring canned goods for a chance to win prizes, including an adult bike and a kid bike. Costumes are optional, but this month’s theme is Collegiate / College Sports. This month’s music is provided by Chris Thompson. The ride starts at 7:00 p.m.
