Resolution No. 2806 will name the City Open Space “discovered” by esteemed community member Tom Schweich as “Schweich Hill.”
There will be a public hearing regarding the plan to change the hours for the Lubahn Trail from 24 hours/day to dawn-to-dusk. This aligns with Jeffco Open Space hours.
They will consider allowing City Council members to attend meetings virtually when they cannot attend in person.
They will discuss the possibility of posting all emails sent to councilcomments@cityofgolden.net online, so that residents can see the issues that are being discussed.
The business meeting will be followed by a study session. IT Director Jiles McCoy will discuss the possibility of providing citywide broadband service. The Planning Manager will discuss the possibility of allowing restaurants to cook in the rights of way (sidewalks and parking spaces) downtown.
The study session will be followed by an executive session (no public; no camera) to provide the City Manager with his Bi-Annual review.
Golden History Moment
The August 24, 1870 Colorado Transcript reported on the status of the Colorado Central Railroad. Col. T. J. Carter, the railroad’s president, had just returned from a trip east, and he assured the Transcript that he had purchased everything needed to complete the railroad, including “two locomotives, passenger, mail, baggage, freight and coal cars, hand cars, scales, trucks, etc.”
He had twenty-eight car loads of rails and other materials needed to lay the track from Denver to Golden, and had crews lined up to do the work.
He had also made arrangements with railroads “back in the states” (we weren’t a state yet) to sell tickets to Golden. In fact, easterners would be able to pay for a freight shipment all the way to Black Hawk, Central City, Idaho Springs, or Georgetown. The freight would go by rail as far as Golden, and be taken by stage into the mountains. The same was true for passengers: a person in Iowa could pay the fare all the way to Georgetown. They would ride the railroad to Golden and a stagecoach the rest of the way.
Thanks to the Golden History Museum for providing the online cache of historic Transcripts, and to the Golden Transcript for documenting our history since 1866!
