Flavors of Golden

One week from today (Sunday, November 15th), plan to participate in Flavors of Golden. This virtual event is designed to help both local restaurants and the BGOLDN program–which provides food for Golden-ites who are experiencing food insecurity. You can buy a meal from one of the participating restaurants, donate a meal to someone who can’t afford one, and watch an online program by Mayor Weinberg, Chamber Chair Dean Valdez, and other local business leaders.

Golden History Moment

1415 Ford St.

The November 11, 1920 Colorado Transcript advertised a public auction. The owner of 1415 Ford Street (map) was selling his house and its contents. His wife had recently died and he was moving out. “Here is an excellent opportunity to secure a good house. The house is built of brick and is in excellent condition.”

North School

The Parent Teachers Association was having a membership drive and planned a meeting at the North School.

Post 21 of the American Legion was planning an Armistice Day ceremony.

It had been a good year for beets: Great Western Sugar had paid farmers over $30 million.

The Colorado Rangers had received orders to move from the rifle range (now Camp George West) into the Armory. About 50 men would be moving over.

An average of 5 people per day were dying of tuberculosis in Colorado.

Plans were underway to erect a big building on Lookout Mountain as a memorial to Buffalo Bill Cody.

Several of Golden’s Protestant churches were having a “Go-To-Church” campaign.

Many thanks to the Golden History Museum for providing the online cache of historic Transcripts, and to the Golden Transcript for documenting our history since 1866!
