Golden History Moment
Golden High School was located at 10th and Washington for more than 30 years, until the new high school was built on 24th Street. At that point, the former high school became the Golden Junior High. One drawback to this location was the lack of ground around the building. When they conducted gym classes outside, they used Parfet Park, across the street.
One thing I had never considered (until I saw the photo above) was where the school’s marching band practiced. According to the Transcript article, Folks who live on Ninth street are enjoying their seasonal entertainment provided by the Golden high school band which finds this street most adaptable for marching practice. The band is shown here in formation and at attention in practicing maneuvers Monday. Several regular fans–some of them little folks too young to attend school–come as soon as they hear the band and sit on the curb or in their gardens or on back porches to watch and listen.
Thanks to the Golden History Museum for providing the online cache of historic Transcripts, and many thanks to the Golden Transcript for documenting our history since 1866!
