The November 6, 1947 Colorado Transcript urged its readers to consider a different point of view. This wasn’t a philosophical recommendation: they were suggesting that you walk along the alleys instead of the streets just to see different sites.
If you have the habit of walking to town along a certain route—usually along a paved street —try cutting through the alleys to see the different view you have….
A residence may have a stern and formal front but a walk along the alley may reveal a beautiful garden, an outdoor grill, garden chairs and bird baths. There are the clotheslines and the ashpits and the garbage cans, too….
A walk along an alley will reveal that so-and-so has chickens or that another resident is raising his Thanksgiving turkey, or that still another has rabbits—or even monkeys. Oftentimes these are people you would never imagine would be bothered with this extra activity.
