Covid Vaccines
We keep hearing news reports that Covid Vaccines are hard to find. I’ve spent quite a bit of time trying to track down where qualifying Golden residents can find them, and here’s what I’ve learned:
Official Sources:
This page from the CDPHE website indicates that the Golden King Soopers is providing vaccines.
Unofficial Sources:
I have heard from a reader who signed up with Lutheran Medical Center using their mychart form and got her first shot a few days ago.
I’ve also heard that Kaiser Permanente will give shots to non-members who sign up with their site, though their questionnaire certainly seems to be screening for health care professionals only.
Finally, word is that our Safeway will be offering shots starting this week. If you qualify to receive one now, you can register for an appointment here.

Lights
A few days ago, I reported news from the City that all holiday lights would be up till the end of January, and the ones in the business district would be up through Valentine’s Day. When one of my photographers noticed that the lights were gone at the history park, I asked for an update. Here’s the latest report from the City: The history park and colored creek lights started coming down a week or so ago. Only the downtown white lights that the DDA pays for stay up through Valentines Day.
Golden History Moment
The January 23, 1974 Golden Transcript reported that a picnic table and benches had been added to the DAR Triangle Park. This is the nice little landscaped area between the Creek and the Visitors Center.
Many groups worked to enhance the area along Clear Creek. The Daughters of the American Revolution began working on the “Triangle Park” in the late 1960s. They cleaned up the trash, planted evergreens, installed sod, and added benches and picnic tables.
That land has seen many improvements over the last 50 years: the upper and lower trails, Visitors Center, and new Washington Avenue bridge have been built. Because of this, the “park” is no longer triangle-shaped, but it’s still a welcoming space.
Despite my affection for that spot, it was only recently that I noticed this marker, acknowledging the DAR’s work in providing it. Do you know where it is?
Many thanks to the Golden History Museum for providing the online cache of historic Transcripts and to the Golden Transcript for documenting our history since 1866!
