6:30PM GURA Board Meeting
The Golden Urban Renewal Authority will discuss possible improvements to the pedestrian/bicycle infrastructure in the Central Neighborhoods urban renewal district. They will also review their work plan for 2021.
Foundation work is underway on the public housing project being constructed at 24th and Ford, in the Central Neighborhoods urban renewal area. The foundation is complete for the boarding house in the West Colfax urban renewal area.
One of GURA’s goals for 2021/2022 is to initiate at least one affordable housing development or acquisition. This may or may not overlap with another of their goals, which is “anticipate one or more additional redevelopment project agreements in the URA plan areas by 2022.” Their third goal is “specific infrastructure projects,” which often include sidewalks, crosswalks, and bike lanes.
You can watch the meeting through the agenda page. The link to watch the meeting will appear on the page at 6:30PM. If you arrive on the page early, you’ll need to refresh the page at 6:30. Send public comments to rfleischmann@cityofgolden.net.

Golden History Moment
The February 8, 1962 Colorado Transcript featured this photo of the Linder Block being demolished. This building had stood at 13th and Washington since the late 1880s. It was making way for a new building for Hested’s Department Store,
Safeway was also building a new store. Their supermarket at 12th and Ford was too small for Golden’s growing population, so they were building a new store behind the old one, still at 12th and Ford. The “old” (1951) store was going to be demolished to make a big parking lot.
