This map was drawn in 2003 to promote local businesses. Businesses paid to be featured, so the artist took some liberties with Golden geography: in some cases, entire blocks are missing, and in others, imaginary buildings fill in spaces (see 13th & Arapahoe). It’s interesting to see the differences in 21 years–what has changed and what remains.
It’s hard to read at this scale, so here’s an excerpt showing just the businesses in and near downtown.
Gone: Meyer Hardware, Foss Drug, Rocking Horse Antiques, Fleur-De-Lis Flowers, 13th Street Wine Bar, Clear Creek Company, Ticklepenny, Golden Tea Time, Williamsburg Inn, Chelsea of London, Mo's Family Portraits, Cookies by Design…
Moved: Century 21 Golden West, Rocky Mtn Quilt Museum…
Renamed: Thirteenth Street Bake Shop, Coburn's Steak & Spirits, Golden Pioneer Museum, Tony Rigatoni's…
What other differences do you spot?
