Coors to dispose of waste in clay pits

Adolph Coors Co. received a permit to dispose of solid wastes in the clay pits near Illinois and 19th Streets at Golden City Council’s regular meeting Thursday. The company plans to dump 270,000 yards of fly ash from coal stacks and concrete and porcelain rubble in a 30-acre area over the next ten years–the permit is for the initial 10 acres.

The article explained that the clay pits would be lined to prevent rainwater from leaching through the waste and entering groundwater. Decades later, the filled pits were donated to the City, which used it to build the Fossil Trace Golf Club and Triceratops Trail.
