The Golden Farmers Market (8AM-1PM today) has a new manager this year, and I’m hearing good things about the new arrangements. Miller Farms is back, and that’s good news. Every week, one booth is set aside for Golden Chamber members to showcase their products or services and another for the Golden Cultural Alliance members. The museums and the library are frequent participants and Market visitors also get to meet folks from the Colorado Environmental Film Festival, the Colorado Cowboy Poets, the Golden Community Choirs….
Today you’ll get a chance to meet someone from Golden Beer Talks! This lecture series has been running for 5-1/2 years now, and has covered topics as wide-reaching as soul food, cartography, lasers, wildfires, prairies, and the 1918 influenza epidemic. This month’s Beer Talk (Tuesday the 11th) is about NASA’s next trip to the moon. Dr. Jim Clawson, a Technical Advisor to NASA, will tell us all about it. In fact, Jim will be the man in the booth at the Farmers Market this morning!
The City will hold a Kids Bike Rodeo this morning in the Coors Tek Parking Lot (10th & Jackson). Practice bicycle maneuvering and safety skills, including stopping, signaling, maintaining balance, dodging “rocks,” and riding in a straight line. We will also have Strider bikes and an opportunity for new riders to practice gliding and pedaling off-course. Drop by any time between 10AM and 1PM. Learn more….
The downtown merchants are celebrating Golden Weekends again tonight from 5-8PM. Tonight’s musicians are Golden’s own Jubilant Bridge (dulcimer duo vocals and string instruments) and Kyle Swan (improvisational jazz and blues). The carriages will be giving rides from 6-8PM, so head downtown, check out the stores, enjoy the music, and get a free ride!
