In the spring of 1857, the SS Central America was shipping a special load of gold from San Francisco to New York when it sank in a hurricane one hundred and sixty miles east of Cape Hatteras. News of the disaster reached the east coast and ignited the financial panic of 1857. In response, seven members of the Massachusetts Charitable Mechanic Association of Boston took advantage of the crisis to establish a frontier town in Colorado Territory. $0 Members; $10 plus online registration fee non-members. 7-9PM How Mines Students won the Solar Decathlon
A group of students from the Colorado School of Mines bested 17 other teams from around the world to claim the top spot in the first Solar Decathlon ever held in Africa. See how they cracked that difficult nut: to design and build on site an affordable, solar-powered net-zero-energy model house uniquely adapted to the North African climate and location.
Hear what allowed them to win and what their project looks like and what it achieves from Lucy Davis and Prof. Tim Ohno.
