The Friends of the Foothills group is meeting tonight at the American Mountaineering Center (10th & Washington) at 7 PM. This group has worked for many years to preserve the mountain backdrop by discouraging urban sprawl along Highway 93. The Jefferson County government is now finalizing a North Plains Plan that would zone the area along 93 for commercial and residential development. City Council has a long agenda tonight. The public part of the meeting will begin at 7 PM. Among the topics will be a discussion as to whether the City will comment on the County’s North Plains Plan (see the topic above). They will also invite public comment on the 2012 budget. A study session will follow the business meeting. They will discuss the Mayor’s proposed restructuring of the urban renewal, economic development, and marketing groups.
