Pete Modreski of the US Geological Survey will lead a Day-Before-Earth-Day Geology and Nature Hike on South Table Mountain this afternoon, starting at 4. The easy-paced loop hike will follow a good but steep trail to the top, about 2 miles round trip and about 500 feet elevation gain. We’ll view and discuss the lava flows that cap the mesa, the sedimentary rocks beneath them, how the present landscape developed, and plant communities on the mesa. All are welcome. Contact pmodreski@usgs.gov or 303-202-4766 / 720-205-2553 with any questions or in case of inclement weather. Meet at the Lubahn trailhead, 18th & Belvedere Streets, Golden, CO (map).
The Buffalo Rose is starting a new event tonight: Geeks Who Drink. They’ll have unlimited tacos from 6:30-9:30, and a pub trivia quiz from 7:30-9:30. Sounds like fun!
The bookmobile will be in the library parking lot tonight from 6-8PM.
Since the library is closed until mid-June, their monthly book discussion will be held tonight at the Starbucks at 17224 South Golden Road, Golden (map). This month’s book is The Hare with Amber Eyes : A Family’s Century of Art and Loss by Edmund de Waal. The discussion runs from 6-7PM, and everyone is welcome!
