The Planning Commission meets tonight at 6:30PM in City Council Chambers. They are plunging into the challenging task of bringing our municipal code in line with the Comprehensive Plan and Neighborhood Plans. A lot of this work involves turning qualitative terms such as “small,” “compatible,” and “friendly” into quantitative terms such as “50% maximum lot coverage,” and “maximum height 25′.” Council approved a 120 day building moratorium in order to get these issues addressed, so the next four months will be interesting in Golden. The Friends of the Colorado School of Mines Geology Museum will host a lecture tonight at 7PM: Outstanding Minerals of Colorado’s Metallic Ore Deposits: A Brief Review by Phil Persson. The talk will be on the Mines campus in GRL 201, the large conference room directly across the hall from the CSM Geology Museum. The Mines Geology Museum is one block north of Mines’ Maple Street pedestrian mall. The closest parking is in the lots immediately north and south of the Geology Museum and is FREE in the evening. The Geology Museum is #27 on the campus map. Admission is free and all are welcome.
