The Planning Commission will review the proposed Transportation Master Plan tonight at 6:30. This is a study session, so there will not be time for public comment. See the meeting packet to learn more about tonight’s topic.

If you have opinions about streets and trails (and who doesn’t?) you should be paying attention to this plan as it goes through the review and approval processes, because the results will be with us for decades to come. If you think we have too many bike lanes or too few, too many roundabouts or too few, too much traffic calming or too little, start letting your opinions be known. You can send an email to the Planning Commission, the Mobility and Transportation Advisory Board, or City Council–or to all of them. You can show up at meetings and address them during public comment, write a letter, or call your City Council representatives.

YESTERDAY

50 Years Ago construction was underway for the Old Miners Inn on the south side of Clear Creek, west of Highway 6 (Google maps). The property was annexed into the City in December of 1969. According to the October 24, 1969 Golden Transcript, the Inn included “40 units plus a lounge and restaurant.” The buildings are still there, and the 40 Inn rooms have since been converted to 21 condos. I toured one about 10 years ago, when it was for sale. It was about 700 square feet, one large room downstairs and one upstairs, connect by a spiral staircase. It had nice views out to the trees along the Creek, and the price was $99,000. According to Zillow, they’re currently worth about $210K (though none are for sale).

Thanks to the Golden History Museum for digitizing the old Transcripts, and thanks to the Golden Transcript for documenting our history since 1866!
