Golden History Moment
43 Years Ago
The September 12, 1978 Golden Transcript described a 3,120 acre fire that was raging in KenCaryl Ranch. Three slurry bombers were dropping flame retardant, and firefighters from Colorado, Idaho, and California were working to stop the blaze. “Gusting, shifting winds pushed the flames farther across the timber and brush…(were) stymieing firefighters’ efforts to bring the two-day-old blaze under control.”
In response to the fire hazard conditions, Jeffco Open Space announced that Apex Gulch Park in Golden would be closed until cooler conditions or precipitation made conditions safer.
