The City will have several openings on the various boards and commission this spring. If you’re interested in becoming involved in city government, the best way to prepare yourself is to become familiar with what those groups do. The Historic Preservation Board, Planning Commission, and City Council are available online, through the City website. The other boards plan to start broadcasting their meetings, but until they do, you should schedule time to attend in person.
The Downtown Development Authority meets tonight at 6:30 in the City Council Chamber. Their topics will include the status of downtown’s banners–whether they are adequate as-is, or need to be redesigned and/or redistributed. They will also discuss the downtown streetscape, including the addition of new trash and recycling containers, and possible enhancements to the streetscape in general. They will review downtown parking usage and constraints. The meeting packet is available for download.
Parks and Recreation will meet tomorrow (Tuesday) night at 7 at the Community Center. Their topics include a work plan review and a discussion of the Bachman Property. No meeting packet is available.
The Planning Commission will have a study session Wednesday night at 6:30 in the City Council Chamber. Their topic will be affordable housing. The public is welcome to attend study sessions, but there is no time allotted for public comment. Planning Commission meetings are streamed live (audio only) through the City website.
City Council meets on Thursday night at 6:30. They will consider an annexation request by Camping World. The police chief will describe a proposed intergovernmental agreement regarding a regional criminal justice records management system. The public works director will describe a proposed resolution regarding water rights requirements for regional stormwater detention.The City Manager will request permission to hire a lobbying group to protect the city with regard to transportation and water issues in dealings with the state legislature. The planning director will present a request by Blue Canyon Grill to demolish part of a planter box and fence off part of the sidewalk for restaurant seating.
After their business meeting, council will hold a study session. That will include a brief meeting with the Public Art Commission, a discussion of the fire sprinkler ordinance, and a succession plan for the City Manager.
