The Moon, the Sun, and the Frog Prince

This is the 50th anniversary of the lunar landing, and there are two celebrations today. The Geology Museum on the School of Mines campus (map) is celebrating the Mooniversary from 10AM-2PM. See their moon rocks, race moon rovers, play Space Bingo, win prizes and more! It’s all free.

The History Park is also holding a free event: Blast Off in the History Park. Come celebrate the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11’s journey, which was the spaceflight that landed the first two people on the moon. Hands-on activities and fun will be available from 10AM-2PM.

Another celestial event, the 23rd Annual Summer Solstice Celebration at the Golden City Brewery, takes place from 11AM-8PM today. (What’s that you say? the solstice was a month ago? This event was rained out in June, so they postponed it till today.) They will have event glasses, plenty of beer, a food truck, and the proceeds will support Comeback Yoga, which helps returning veterans and their families.

Miners Alley Children’s Theater is opening a new play today: The Frog Prince. Get in out of the heat and enjoy a live performance of this classic children’s tale. Performances will be at 1PM today (July 20th), July 27th, and August 3rd. On August 10th and 17th they will give two performances–at 11AM as well as 1PM.

Golden Weekends Downtown:
We won’t have the usual Golden Weekend event next week, because downtown will be filled with Buffalo Bill Days celebrations and celebrants. So head downtown tonight and enjoy the musicians along the Avenue and the horse-drawn carriage rides…or wait until August 2nd.

Tonight’s music (5-8PM) is sponsored by Creekside Jewelers, Blue Moose Trading Company, and the Clothes Mine.
