Golden History Roundtable
The first meeting of the Golden History Roundtable will be held tomorrow night, Tuesday February 27th, at 6PM at the Golden Library. This will be a planning session, to discuss future topics, speakers, and source materials. Here’s the official description: Are you interested in Golden history? Consider joining a new Golden History Roundtable that will be meeting at the Golden Library. Each meeting will feature a speaker who presents a Golden history topic. Attendees are encouraged to chime in with what they know on the topic. The rest of the meetings for the year are scheduled on Saturdays, during the day. If you’re interested in helping us come up with ideas for the rest of the year, please plan to join us Tuesday night at the Library! Questions? Contact the facilitator, Barb Warden, at 303-278-2701 or barb@goldentoday.com.

Caucuses
According to the Colorado Secretary of State, “Precinct caucuses are meetings of registered electors within a precinct who are members of a particular major political party. The purpose of precinct caucuses is to elect precinct committee persons and delegates to county assemblies. Caucuses are held in locations across Colorado and are open to the public.” This year’s caucuses will be held on Tuesday March 6th. Most Golden Republicans will caucus at Bell Middle School, and most Golden Democrats will be at Golden High School, but check your party’s website to verify your caucus site: Republicans * Democrats.
If you’re dissatisfied with the candidates you see on the ballot, you should get involved now, at the caucus level. This is where they start determining who will be on the ballot.
Kris Teegarden, a Democratic candidate for Colorado House District 24, will have a Caucus Happy Hour tonight from 6-7:30 at New Terrain Brewing Company. More info….
The Golden Investment Task Force meets tonight at 6PM in City Council Chambers. They are reviewing the “wish list” that the city has accumulated through the years, and deciding which to fund. The list includes a new city hall, more recreational amenities, street and sidewalk improvements, open space purchases, deploying broadband, a new history museum, a new arts center, affordable housing, etc. Most of these expenses can’t be covered by the city’s income, so they’re looking at taking on debt to cover them. They have scheduled an open house on March 14th to hear what the community thinks about these potential expenses. Get the details by reading the meeting packet.
Guiding Golden
The City launched a new website this year to gather public input on various topics: www.guidinggolden.com. They’re frustrated that they don’t have more citizens engaging with the site, so please visit, sign up, and start commenting on the various issues.
This Thursday, March 1st, Nathan Richie (Director of the Golden History Museum and Park) will lecture about the Astor House: Life after the Territorial Capital. Housing territorial legislators is what the Astor House is best known for while the territorial capital was located in Golden. However, after the capital moved to Denver, Astor House evolved into the community’s place for boarding and gathering for the next 150 years. Explore the history of Astor House as a place for séances, philanthropy, and the promotion of a diverse and vibrant Golden. The Lecture will be held at the Golden Community Center from 6-7:30PM. It’s free for museum members and $10 for non-members. Please register here.
