UPDATE: 9:40 – Fireworks finished, and a good time was had by all. Thanks to the Golden Lions Club and the City of Golden for another great 4th of July celebration!
At 9:05, the City posted: Fireworks will go at 9:15! We are going to take advantage of a short weather window, get in your favorite viewing spot quickly!!
At 8:50PM, the City posted: Fireworks display will happen as late as 10 pm in case of a weather delay. Weather reports indicate a potentially heavy band of rain for our area. Stick with us if you have a safe place to wait out the rain. Stay safe!
At 8:34PM, the City posted the following: “Light rains won’t stop the show, if the current weather holds, we should be a go! Stay tuned, we hope to have a fireworks show in an hour!”
John Adams said that Independence Day “…ought to be celebrated by pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other.”
So let’s get to it!
Heritage Square Amusement Park is open today from 10AM-7PM. They’ll have pony rides from 12-4, plus face painting, a balloon artist, and all the great rides you know and love. They have a zip line, go-karts, miniature golf, boats, and an arcade.
Applewood Valley United Methodist Church will have a FREE 4th of July Ice Cream Social from 11-1. They’ll have a bicycle parade, games, crafts, and a fire truck.
The Lions Club 4th of July Festival kicks off at 11AM today in Lions Park (map), and runs all day. There will be prizes, food, live music, beer, and free rides and face painting for the kids. Buy some raffle tickets for a chance to win one of over 200 prizes, including the grand prize of $1000 donated by the Lions Club! You don’t need to be present to win.

The Rocky Mountain Chapter of Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association will have their Helicopter War Museum set up and open to the public at Lions Park. See pictures from helicopter combat missions. Browse artifacts brought home from the war. Meet pilots that flew helicopter combat missions. Sit in the cockpit of a “Huey.”
The fireworks show will begin around 9:30 p.m. (weather-permitting). Sponsored by the City of Golden and the Golden Lions Club.
Golden City Brewery is open 11:30-7:30 today. Sgt Vet Gourmet Hot Dogs & Sausage will be providing food. At 3PM, they’ll be tapping two special casks–a Raspberry Red Ale, and a Citrus P.A.
Golden Moon Speakeasy has Golden’s own Lookout Mountain Boys playing from 6-9 tonight. Afterwards, watch the fireworks from their patio!
Mountain Toad is open 12-8 today, and I Got Bratz is serving food.
