Community Center - Golden Colorado

The Citizen’s Budget Advisory Committee will meet at 7:30 this morning in City Council Chambers. Sorry for the late notice–the agenda was just posted yesterday. This should be an interesting meeting. A subcommittee has been looking at parts of the budget that they consider “subsidies,” which include the cost of running the community center, the history museum, Splash water park, and the communications & sustainability departments.

I’m not clear on which costs constitute “subsidies” and which are just the cost of running the government. For instance, why is paying to run the History Museum or the communications department a “subsidy” while paying to run the finance, planning, public works, human resources, police, and fire departments are not? I hope to understand the difference after watching the meeting.

The Finance Director will discuss a recent downward trend in sales and use tax revenue, pointing to the possibility of an oncoming recession. The City Manager will describe the potential acquisition of the Coors Office building and several parcels of land in the Goosetown neighborhood. See the meeting packet for more details.

The Golden Elementary Schools will give an instrumental music concert at Bell Middle School from 5:30-7:30.

The Golden River Sports folks will be tying flies at Mountain Toad Brewing tonight from 6-9. No experience necessary. We will have a few vices and materials, but please bring your own if you have them! Contact us with any questions: 303-215-9386.

The Planning Commission will have a study session (no public comment) at 6:30 this evening in City Council Chambers. They will discuss the Transportation Master Plan and the results of the North Neighborhoods survey on R-2 zoning. Both the Transportation Plan and the Survey results are included in the meeting packet.
