Coronavirus Update:
In addition to their general page about Coronavirus, the County now has a Case Summary page where you can check to see the number of cases in Jefferson County (6, as of Friday night).
The City has created a new page focused on all things Corona, and they invite Golden businesses and cultural organizations to send news of closures to the City’s webmaster. Mayor Weinberg has posted a letter detailing steps the City is taking to safeguard us.
Yesterday, I mentioned that Jeffco Schools, the School of Mines, Miners Alley Playhouse, and the Buffalo Rose performance venue, were all closing until further notice. These places are now also closed:
Golden Community Center
Tony Grampsas Gym
Foothills Art Center
Golden History Museum
Golden Visitors Center
Coors Tours
City Hall will still be open for business, but public meetings are canceled. This includes Monday’s municipal court session, Monday evening’s DDA meeting, and the planned neighborhood meeting regarding 8th street traffic designs.
The golf course is still open, and the temporary bridge over the Church Ditch at 8th Street is now open. The Library is still open.
There is a food drive going on this weekend to help individuals, families, and children in the Golden community. You can drop off food or a check at Calvary Church from 9AM-7PM today or tomorrow. You can also donate online through the Golden Backpack site.

Golden History Moment
Update to History: Councilor Paul Haseman has convinced me that the road up Lookout Mountain opened in 1913, not 1914 (as I said yesterday). It’s actually a complicated question, in that I used the term “Lariat Loop,” and the Loop didn’t even exist at that time. The road was originally called the Lariat Trail and went up to the top of Lookout Mountain. It eventually was either extended or connected with other roads, so it did go deeper into the mountains, but I’m not sure of the timing of any growth after it reached Lookout Mountain.
According to the Lariat Loop Scenic Byway website, the “Lariat Loop” includes two older scenic routes–one that started in Morrison and went up Bear Creek Canyon, and the Lariat Trail, which starts in Golden. The Loop was designated a Colorado Scenic Byway in 2002 and a National Scenic Byway in 2009.
It’s a pretty drive. It takes you past Buffalo Bill’s grave, the Buffalo Overlook, Bergen Park, through Evergreen, and down Bear Creek Canyon, through Kittridge, and Morrison. If you’re feeling stir crazy but nervous about being around people, take a drive on the Lariat Loop!
