Old Books, New TV Shows, and Modern Quilts

The Fall Whale of a Used Book Sale starts today! As always, it’s a great opportunity to buy tons of used books, movies, and audio books.  They are open today and tomorrow from 9AM-5PM and Sunday from 11AM-3PM at the Jeffco Fairgrounds (map).


From 11-11:30 this morning, kids under 6 can learn about Slime Science at the libarary. With a name like that, who could resist?


Stranger Things at the LibraryAre you excited about the upcoming Season 2 of Stranger Things? The library has a party tonight for you: Stranger Things at the Library. Stranger Things awaits you at the Golden Public Library! To celebrate this return to the Upside Down, we’re staying open late to play retro video games, rock out to 80’s hits, drink classic Coke and watch the first episode of Season 2. Bring Friends. Eat Snacks. Geek out 1984 style. Costumes encouraged! The party runs from 6-8PM and is suitable for both teens & adults.


Modern Quilts Exhibit at the Rocky Mountain Quilt MuseumThe Quilt Museum is holding the opening reception for their new exhibit, “How New is Modern?” from 6-8PM tonight. The Denver Metro Modern Quilt Guild hosted a call for entries in early 2017 for their featured modern art exhibit, “How New is Modern?” Their goal was to tell a story about how modern quilting has emerged out of quilting’s long history. By engaging with traditional quilts in a modern way and linking them to modern aesthetics, it creates a point of connection and dialog between traditional and modern quilts. Tonight’s reception is free!

Railroad Museum - Golden Colorado

The is the second and final day of the Garden Railway steam-up at the Railroad Museum.  They’ll be there from 9 till 4.

The City is hosting a Kids’ Bike Rodeo today from 10AM-1PM in the Coors Tek parking lot.  Get a safe start to summer! The City of Golden is partnering with Bicycle Colorado for a Kids’ Bike Rodeo. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 4, 2016 at the Coors Tek parking lot on the corner of 10th and Jackson Streets (across the street from Parfet Park).  Learn more….

The is the last day of the Spring Whale of a Used Book Sale, and that means that it’s BAG DAY!  Fill a grocery sack with books and videos and take it all home for only $6!  They’re open till 3 today, but they tend to start packing up before then.

Rumor has it that we’ll have a lot of Ferraris parked along Washington Avenue this afternoon from 1-3.  The Ferrari Club of America, Rocky Mountain Chapter, is doing a ride in the mountains today, and they plan to end at Indulge Bistro, 13th & Washington.

Free Fun Family-Friendly First Friday

Carriage Rides - Golden Colorado

From 5-7 this evening, the Chamber will be providing free carriage rides, face-painting, live improv, and music downtown.

Students of Golden High School will perform live improv.  Come and enjoy the talents of Stages Presents: Some Assembly Required.  They will begin their street performance in front of Anthony’s Pizza at 600 12th Street.

Stop by Golden Goods (1201 Washington Ave.) to have the kids’ faces painted by A Face to Paint.

Head to Wings of Eagles (805 12th St) to catch a horse-drawn carriage ride with Clear Creek Carriage Company.

Enjoy live musical entertainment by Warren Kennison, The One Man Band.

The Spring Whale of a Used Book Sale will be open today from 8AM – 5PM.  From 8-9, there’s a $10 admission fee, but after that it’s free.  It’s a great way to stock up on books of any genre as well as movies & audiobooks.

The Railroad Museum is having a Colorado Rails & Cocktails tonight from 6:30-8PM.  Relax, have a beverage, and travel back to a time when railroads shaped the American West.  Learn more….

Haunted physics and great deals

The CSM Society of Physics Students will be running their ever-popular Haunted Physics Lab today from 10-2 in the Student Center Ballroom.  Club members will be demonstrating various experiments in the spirit of Halloween.  16th & Maple Streets (map)

This is the last day of the CSM Geology Museum’s Fall Mineral, Book, and Fossil sale.  It will be open from 9-4, at 1310 Maple Street (map).

This is also the final day of the Library’s Fall Whale of a Used Book Sale.  More than 100,000 gently used books, DVDs, audiobooks and LPs are available. This is Bag Day, where for just $6, you can fill a grocery bag with books.   The sale is located at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, 15200 West Sixth Avenue (map).

Books and Murder

It’s a big day for book-lovers!  The Library’s semi-annual Whale of a Used Book Sale is going on this weekend.  More than 100,000 gently used books, DVDs, audiobooks and LPs with prices from 50 cents to $3 will be available.  The sale is open from 9-5 today (Friday) and tomorrow, and from 11-3 on Sunday.  Sunday is Bag Day, where for just $6, you can fill a grocery bag with books.

The Halloween events are coming thick and fast now.  The Library is hosting Twisted Tales: A Murder in Wonderland tonight.  There’s been a murder in Wonderland and YOU need to solve it. Don’t be ‘late’ for this very thrilling date. Murder mystery written and performed by teens, for teens in grades 6-12. Costumes required, cosplay encouraged.
