NOTICE: Effective 8/1, seasonal closures lifted

All seasonal closures for wildlife protection have been lifted for Clear Creek Canyon Park, Black Bear Trail at Deer Creek Canyon/Hildebrand Ranch Park, Cathedral Spires Park, and Rim Rock Trail at North Table Mountain Park.

Jeffco Open Space surrounding Golden Colorado

One of the things that makes Golden so livable is the 54,000 acres of Open Space that Jefferson County owns–much of it surrounding Golden itself. That didn’t happen by accident, nor was it without controversy. In 1972 a group of citizens, organized under the name “PLAN Jeffco,” organized and campaigned to establish a 1/2 of one percent sales tax in Jefferson County to fund open space acquisition. This volunteer group of still active in advocating for open space, advising the county, and working for additional open space acquisitions.

PLAN Jeffco will be celebrating their 45th anniversary tomorrow (Tuesday, August 29th) with a picnic at the Lookout Mountain Nature Center from 4-8PM. Plan to be there, to help them celebrate! Bring your own picnic or purchase BBQ, vegetarian food, and ice cream from food trucks. Learn more and register to let them know you plan to attend.


The Golden Bike Cruise is also tomorrow night.  The event starts at 6:00 p.m. with live music from local bands, beer from New Terrain Brewing, and food by Bob’s Atomic Burgers. Bring canned goods for a chance to win prizes, including an adult bike and a kid bike. Costumes are optional, but this month’s theme is Collegiate / College Sports. This month’s music is provided by Chris Thompson. The ride starts at 7:00 p.m.

Jeffco Open Space plans to repair, reopen historic Welch Ditch

Jefferson County Open Space will be hosting a community meeting in January looking at a handful of projects planned for the mouth of Clear Creek Canyon.

Among them are development of the Welch Ditch Trail, a unique project reviving a trail atop an irrigation ditch first built in the 1870s to divert water from Clear Creek to around 4,000 acres of farmland in Jefferson County…  Read more…
