From trails in a dirt lot, to a world-spanning sport

Sidewalk Sale in Golden Colorado

Yesterday’s sidewalk sale was fun–I ran into a lot of friends and Dave Powers got some nice photos.  View them on our Facebook page.

The Golden Giddyup Mountain Bike Race will be happening today, starting at 7:30, and it will be celebrated this afternoon in Lions Park (map).  Whether you’re riding the Giddyup event or not, it will be a fun day of bluegrass, beers, and bikes at Lions Park on Sunday afternoon, with dozens of great bike brands displaying their wares, and fun for all ages.  The Expo will be set up in Lions Park from 10-6, the Beer Garden & Lunch will be open from 11-4, and Rapidgrass will play from 1:30-3 and again from 4:30-5:30.  The awards will be presented between 3 and 4:430.  Learn more….

Golden Real Estate will have lots of electric cars on hand today between 10 and 3, so if you’ve been thinking about buying one, this is a good opportunity to see a bunch of them all in one place, talk to their owners, and ride in them.

Tomorrow
The Golden Concert Choir will have their first rehearsal of the year tomorrow night, starting at 6:30.  If you enjoy singing and would like to do it in company, consider joining the community choir.  Learn more….

At tomorrow night’s GURA meeting, the board will discuss a possible redevelopment project on Colfax. Confluence–the company that built the 8th Street Apartments and proposed a commercial “dormitory” building across from Safeway–is trying to acquire property on West Colfax.

Super Saturday

Today
The stores of Golden are having a SIDEWALK SALE today from 10AM-5PM.

This is the second and final day of the Ball Production Technician Job Fair–9AM to 1PM.

Both Farmers Markets (10th & Illinois and 15th and Jackson) will be running this morning.

Safety and Preparedness Day will be celebrated at the Fire Station (911 10th St.) from 10AM-2PM.

Coffee with a Councilor will take place at White Ash Mine Park from 10-11. Casey Brown will have two guests–the candidates for City Council Ward 4.

The Golden City Brewery will host Goldenfest all day. This is a fund-raiser for the Fire Department, so you can drink beer and feel virtuous at the same time.

Dinosaur Ridge is having one of their Dinosaur Discovery Days today from 10AM-2PM. Today, they’re focusing on geocachingGeocaching is a great activity done with family and friends! Utilizing GPS coordinates, visitors locate small canisters, boxes, and crates, hidden in unique locations! The Dinosaur Ridge Main Visitor Center and the Dinosaur Ridge Trail feature many geocaches, as well as several earthcaches. GPS devices are available to rent from the USGS during the event. Both today and tomorrow at 2PM, Calvary Church will be giving tours to celebrate their 150th anniversary.

Tomorrow
The Second Annual Golden Giddyup mountain bike festival will be happening tomorrow, starting at 7:30AM.

Golden Real Estate is hosting an event from 10AM-3PM to celebrate National Drive Electric Week. They’ll have a bunch of electric vehicles on hand, including LEAF, Tesla Model S, Chevy Bolt, Chevy Volt, Ford Focus, Smart fortwo electric drive, Tesla Model X, and Prius.  The owners will answer questions and give rides in their vehicles.

The Quilt Museum is resuming their Sunday at the Museum series tomorrow from 2-4 with Confessions of a Scrap QueenIrene Berry enjoys the reputation of someone who will use any fabric, no matter how ugly it is. She will present a trunk show that includes some of her most recent quilts—and as you know, every quilt has a story. Irene will share her four top tips for making and designing your own successful scrap quilt.
