It’s Memorial Day weekend–time to plan your summer!  Here are some of the major Golden events coming up this summer:

Find out more about these events, and everything else going on in Golden throughout the year, on our Signature Events page!

Art and Music Downtown Today

Jefferson Symphony Orchestra

The Fine Arts Festival continues today from 10-5. In addition to the 130 artists, there will be live music on 11th Street and in several places along Washington Avenue.

At 6:30, bring your lawn chairs and blankets to Parfet Park for a concert by the Jefferson Symphony Orchestra.  They’ll be playing a variety of pops and patriotic music.  Should be a perfect way to conclude a summer weekend!

Downtown is all a-twitter this weekend!

Golden Fine Arts Festival

The Fine Arts Festival takes place on 11th Street, from Arapahoe to Maple Streets…that’s right next to the Clear Creek History Park.  You’ll find more than 130 artists displaying their work, plus live music, food vendors, and a Kids Zone.

The Farmers Market will have special extended hours today, and will run from 8-4.  Free carriage rides will be available all day.

Foothills Art Center is hosting a sidewalk sale from 9am-3pm, featuring the work of more than 30 Colorado artists and crafters.  From 11am-3pm, Foothills will invite visitors to help them paint an outdoor mural.

Many of the merchants along Washington Avenue are hosting special events for the Festival, and there will be live music in several spots along the Avenue.

GURA Meeting Tonight

The Golden Urban Renewal Authority (GURA) meets tonight at 6:30 in the City Council Chamber.  They will discuss the two new urban renewal areas–the one where the Golden Bowl will be replaced with a Natural Grocers, and the one on 8th Street, where a new apartment complex is to be built.  They will also consider grant requests from Rewind Consignment, Gear Canyon (formerly the Sports Mine), the Fine Arts Festival, and the Jefferson Symphony.

Moving on to our next event, the USA Pro Cycling Challeng is coming to Golden this weekend.  The festivities will begin Friday afternoon with a hill climb, continue Friday evening with a Street Fair and a movie in Lions (not Parfet) Park.  There will be an expo in Parfet Park on Saturday morning, then the race start, a concert in the park, and finally our belated 4th of July fireworks on Saturday night.  Learn more about what to expect this weekend at procyclinggolden.com.
