Golden History Moment
The narrow gauge passenger and baggage cars are taking their turn in the car shops, and are being thoroughly overhauled and painted preparatory to the opening of spring travel.
Colorado Transcript – January 26, 1876
The Colorado Central Railroad, based in Golden, had facilities for repairing railroad cars and engines–even building complete cars. This was very handy, since accidents were frequent occurrences in those early years.
Engine No. 3, narrow-gauge, is now in the shop undergoing repairs, which became necessary by the accident of Tuesday of last week, when she mounted the rails at an imperfect joint near Cottonwood siding, and tumbled over into the creek. The cab was nearly demolished, but the engine itself was very little injured.
