This is the summer solstice–the longest day of the year! We’ll have 14 hours, 59 minutes, and 14 seconds of daylight. The sun will rise at 5:32AM and set at 8:31PM. We’re four days past the full moon, but in case your evening revelries extend into nighttime, the moon will rise at 11:52PM.
Golden Weekends Downtown:
Celebrate the solstice by coming downtown tonight for a carriage ride, some street music, a browse through the downtown shops and a bite at the restaurants. Tonight’s music is sponsored by Creekside Jewelers and Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches. Jim Hecker (strings) and Trevor Toms (vocal and guitar) will be playing along Washington Avenue from 5-8PM.
The carriages, which will operate from 6-8PM, are sponsored by Avenue Gifts. Start the ride on 12th Street, next to the Old Capitol Grill and Smokehouse.
While you’re down there, you should take a walk along the creek, to see how high it is…I attended a Golden Cultural Alliance meeting on the Visitors Center patio yesterday morning, and it was hard to hear each other over the roar of the Creek!
Dave Powers, who does a lot of photography for Goldentoday.com, will host a slideshow and discussion about his trip to Cuba at Cafe 13 tonight at 6PM. If you’re interested in Cuba or just want to meet the great Dave Powers–come! If you can’t attend the talk, make sure you stop in the Cafe sometime soon to see Dave’s Cuba pictures, hanging on the walls.
Tonight’s Music:
Ace Hi Tavern – Karaoke at 9PM
Buffalo Rose – Boogie Machine, 8PM
Dirty Dogs Roadhouse – Face the Music, 7-11PM
Wrigley’s Chicago Bar & Grill – Falling Rock, 5-9PM
