Golden History Moment
Golden’s own radio station, KGOL made its debut at 1250 AM in February of 1957. The station’s studio and offices were located on the second floor of the Golden Opera House (the Ace Hi Tavern building), and their transmission towers were near the Golden Cemetery.
They broadcast a mix of music, news, and weather. They conducted occasional interviews with local politicians and business owners. Golden High School did a regular segment of high school news. The station reported on high school and Mines sports teams. As their advertising proudly proclaimed, KGOL was Golden’s OWN and ONLY Radio Station.
Alas, it didn’t last long. A Texas-based company bought KGOL in January of 1958, and in December of that year, they moved to offices in Lakeside.
Many thanks to the Golden History Museum for providing the online cache of historic Transcripts and to the Golden Transcript for documenting our history since 1866!
