Golden History Moment
The May 2, 1929 Colorado Transcript includes, of course, lots of ads for long-gone businesses. They don’t include photographs, but I enjoy picturing where they were located. So here they are!
The Golden Gem Theater was located in the building that now houses Starbucks. The Hotel Berrimoor is now the Table Mountain Inn.
Linder Hardware was located where Indulge Bistro and Wine Bar is. The building at 12th and Washington, which now houses Golden Good, contained several businesses, including the Rubey Bank, the Golden Building & Loan Association, an insurance agency, and Robinson’s Bookstore. Ellis Department Store was one of several stores in the Opera House building–now the Ace Hi Tavern. City Tailor Shop was located in the building that held the candle shop for many years and most recently the vintage photo gallery.
The Golden Transcript (originally called the Colorado Transcript) has been publishing since 1866. The Golden History Museum has been working on digitizing the historic issues. You’ll find old Transcripts online at coloradohistoricnewspapers.org.
