6:30PM GURA Board Meeting
GURA has more revenue than anticipated for the West Colfax and Parfet Briarwood urban renewal areas, so they will adjust the budget. At tonight’s meeting, staff will provide the figures and explain why the budget will be adjusted but not formally amended.
The board will discuss the complete street changes scheduled for West Colfax. City staff is not sure whether they will get the easements they need to make the changes they hope to make in Lena Gulch. An earlier set of meeting notes explained that Jeffco Open Space wanted the property they provide to be kept as Open Space, while Golden has other plans for it.
They are looking for ways to improve bikeability on Jackson South of 24th in the Central Neighborhoods. They are also talking to the owner of the former Golden Motel at 24t and Ford Street about building a sidewalk along the Ford St. side of their property. This would improve access from the new housing project to DeLong Park.
In the Parfet-Briarwood area, they still hope to create pedestrian access between 8th St. and Lions Park at the east end of the Community Center.
The new Jefferson County Housing project is well underway in the Central Neighborhoods area.
The self storage business is completed and operational in the West Colfax area. The boarding house project is under construction with the estimated completion date a year from now. For more information on any of these topics, see tonight’s meeting packet.
Golden History Moment
This photo comes from Dan Abbott’s collection. It was taken by W.G. Chamberlain, a well-known photographer of the time.
The tracks in the photo belong to the narrow gauge Colorado Central Railroad. From Golden, it followed approximately the same route as Highway 6 to Idaho Springs and Highway 119 to Black Hawk. The railroad tracks were removed in 1941. The plan was to begin construction of the automobile highway immediately, but the project was delayed by our entrance to World War II. The highway was completed in about 1950.
Thanks to Dan Abbott for both his photo collection and his book, Colorado Central Railroad.
