GOLDEN HISTORY MOMENT
Here’s a closeup of the upper-left (southeast) quadrant:
The road heading off diagonally to the right is the Highway 93 bypass. Highway 93 used to run along Washington Avenue but was rerouted to go around the west side of town and meet up with Highway 6. The “new” county buildings (jail, courthouse, etc.) appear in the distance. The clay pits on the east side of Highway 6 have been converted into a golf course.
Here’s the upper-right (southwest) quadrant:
This picture shows area before and after the Canyon Point development. The houses in the foreground are the Mountain Ridge neighborhood. The 1980 photo shows the CSM-Research Institute (red roofs on the south side of the Creek. The 2023 photo shows the Marv Kay stadium in approximately the same place. The Beverly Heights neighborhood (middle-right) has grown closer to Highway 6. In the 1980 photo, the Heritage Dells neighborhood in the distance is under construction. The 2023 photo shows Heritage Dells, Eagle Ridge, and Stonebridge built out with mature trees.
To be continued tomorrow!
