Today’s Golden History Minute:
The building that holds Foothills Art Center was built in 1882 as the First Presbyterian Church of Golden. After World War II, Golden’s population grew and the town boundaries expanded significantly. Most of our historic congregations moved to outlying areas and built bigger churches (with parking lots). The original Baptist, Methodist, Catholic, and Christian churches were demolished. Fortunately, the Presbyterian church was spared the wrecking ball. The Unitarian congregation used the building for a few years, and when they moved out, our fledgling public art group moved in and renamed the building to “Foothills Art Center.”
