Soles4Souls is a non-profit organization that collects shoes for distribution to disaster victims and people suffering poverty. In many countries, children can’t go to school if they don’t have shoes, and this organization ensures that they have them. Soles4Souls accepts shoes in all conditions. Those that are no longer wearable are given to microbusinesses in developing countries. The shoes are either repaired and made wearable or disassembled so their materials can be used in other products.
An 18-year-old girl named Ray Heim is currently running across the United States (barefoot!) to call attention to the cause and to encourage communities to collect shoes for the cause. Ray will be in Golden two weeks from today (on August 26th), and we’re holding a community rally to cheer her on from 4-6PM in the Visitors Center parking lot. Right now, we’re collecting shoes to donate to her cause.
Wouldn’t this be a good time to clean out your closet? Bring your unneeded/unwanted shoes to the Visitors Center at 10th and Washington and deposit them in the collection bin. The shoes don’t need to be new or fashionable or in good repair. They can be work boots, dress shoes, old sneakers, men’s, women’s, or children’s shoes. All they ask is that you tie or rubberband the shoes so they stay together as pairs.
Bring your unwanted shoes to the Visitors Center at 10th and Washington before 8/26!
