NEWS FROM THE CITY

The City of Golden announced yesterday that they plan to move City employees to a 4 day workweek. They will be piloting the program with the Police Department this summer. If the new system is satisfactory, most City employees will move to a 4 day/32 hour workweek. Employee compensation will be unchanged with this move from 40 hours/week to 32 hours/week.

Scott Vargo, City Manager, says the goals for this change are “improving employee retention and engagement, increasing employee wellbeing, and elevating efficiency in our operations”

6:30PM Planning Commission Meeting @ City Hall
Planning Commission will hold a public hearing regarding a request for rezoning to create a Planned Unit Development (PUD) at 17270 W. Colfax Ave. (map).

Comment: One of the goals of the massive, multi-year rezoning project was to create standard zone definitions that would work for new developments, so they wouldn’t need to create a new PUD for every development. The CoorsTek development will also be a PUD.

They will also review the recommendations from the Affordable Housing Committee prior to sending them to City Council. That committee recommended exempting Affordable Housing from the 1% growth limit, reducing parking requirements for affordable housing, and allowing affordable housing in commercially-zoned areas without a Special Use Permit.

Note: The state legislature passed a bill that will nullify the growth limit that Golden passed in 1996. The Governor is expected to sign it.

Lariat Trail in May, 2023
The double hairpin turns on the Lariat Trail with steel guardrails – Bud Rockhill – May, 2023 – enlarge

Workers from the Perimeter Construction Company were at work on one of the hairpin turns on Lariat Trail Saturday, installing steel guardrail. The 287 foot section of rail is one of two the company has contracted to put up on the roadway for the county. It has installed two similar railings on sharp curves on 32nd Ave. near South Table Mountain.
