Sex and Drugs and City Business

6PM – Sex and Drugs in the 1890s at the Golden History Museum
Join us for a boisterous look at the 1890s world of prostitution, licit and illicit drugs, bad whiskey recipes, and the saloon and brothel culture that flourished in Colorado. Copies of Randi Samuelson-Brown’s book, The Beaten Territory, will be available for purchase and signing. $0 Members; $10 plus online registration fee  non-members. Register

Note: If you’re daunted at the thought of reading straight history, you should note that The Beaten Territory is a novel, and it sounds lurid and interesting. Read about it on Amazon (but buy it tonight at the museum).

6:30PM – City Council meets tonight in City Council Chambers. They will hear from the Utility Rate Study Committee on the revised water and sewer rates. They will consider purchasing $589,500 worth of senior water rights from the Vidler Water Company. With a customer already in place, this purchase will generate at least $47,000/year in leasing fees. They will review a first draft of next year’s Capital Improvement Budget. They will review plans to get public input on the Coors property purchase on 10th Street. (As a point of clarification, they are not asking citizens whether they should make the purchase; just what to do with the property once we own it.) The closing date for that property has been delayed again. The current plan is the close the sale sometime in October. They will consider a proposal to require downtown employees to park in the garages east of Washington Avenue, rather than in the lot on the west side. For more information, check the meeting packet.
