Schools
The Golden High School PTA will meet at 5:30 this afternoon (at the school). Bell Middle School is hosting Future Bobcat Night from 5:30-7:30PM for 2019-2020 Incoming 6th graders.
City Meetings
The Local Licensing Authority will meet today at 2:30PM in City Council Chambers. King Soopers has applied to modify their beer display area. This is in response to the new law that allows grocery & convenience stores to sell full-strength beer. Safeway and Loaf & Jug have already made similar modifications. Cafe 13 has applied to significantly remodel their premises. Currently, patrons enter through a central hallway, with the Cafe on the right and three rooms on the left. Since those rooms are all now leased by the Cafe, the plan is to open the space so that the front-left room and Cafe are combined into one big area. The back two rooms on the left side will keep their partitions, so they can be used by smaller groups. Los Jarritos restaurant (2600 East Street) has applied for a change of ownership. The Parks, Recreation, & Museums Board will meet at 7PM at the Community Center. They will review their goals & objectives for 2019 and will discuss a list of property that the city might want to acquire as open space if it becomes available. The director will report on trails, weeds, board vacancies, and the status of the Astor House.
Wednesday Preview
Tomorrow night (Weds) from 6-7:30, the Golden History Museum will be hosting a lecture by Dennis Potter: The Story of Reuben Benton Hayward’s Murder—Part 1. Sarah Hayward and her daughters, 13-year-old Cora and 11-year-old Minnie, watched as Reuben Benton Hayward slapped reins to the bays that pulled his wagon down the lane toward Mount Vernon Canyon. With him in the wagon were two strangers, purportedly dish washers from the Overland Hotel in Golden, who had asked him for a ride to the Rooney Ranch. The date was September 10, 1879, and it was the last time Sarah and the girls would see Reuben alive.
Dennis Potter is a retired Captain of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, and now teaches Criminal Justice. His lectures are always great, and generally involve murder.
