The Golden Fire Department and the UC Hospital will celebrate Safety & Preparedness Day today from 10-2. Stop by Fire Station #1 (911 10th Street) for up close and personal fire truck tours, fire safety puppet shows, car seat checks, and much more. There will also be an opportunity to learn about wildfire prevention and mitigation. Come enjoy activities and safety education for all ages. Free coloring books, safety materials, give-aways, and refreshments. There will also be drawings for door prizes.

Celebrate the Year of the Horse with the Share the Trail event at North Table Mountain Park (map). Fun and educational displays will center around trail etiquette between equestrians, bikers, and hikers. Learn about horses and how safety is a rider’s primary concern. Ask questions of the Patrollers and Rangers to learn about sharing the trail and interacting with horses. There will be a Horse Height demonstration at which people can sit atop a suspended barrel “horse” to understand the height and unsteadiness a rider feels on a mount. Children are encouraged to attend. The Rangers will be on hand from 9 till noon.
The Frontier Olympics is going on today from 11 to 4, and the Farmers Market runs from 8-1. Today is the first day of Thomas the Tank Engine’s annual visit to the Railroad Museum. There are two more showings of Suddenly Last Summer at the high school, today at 2 and 7.
