The Historic Preservation Board meets tonight at 6:30 in City Council Chambers. They will review three cases. The owners of 911 Arapahoe plan to put an addition on their house, designed by Golden architect Peter Ewers, who has worked on many historic homes in Golden. The owners of 410 21st Street also plan to put an addition on the rear of their home. Both the house and an advertising mural on the barn at 514 19th Street are proposed for designation as historic landmarks. Golden historian Richard Gardner wrote an interesting history of the property, which is available in the meeting packet. He mentions that the Bull Durham Tobacco mural was designed to be visible to passengers on the Colorado Central Railroad, which ran through that neighborhood.
Golden United will lead a discussion about community values this evening at 6PM at the Sherpa House. They plan to review core values we share as Americans and discuss how values guide decisions, including concepts from Jonathan Haidt’s book The Righteous Mind. Golden United is keen to receive suggestions on topics that you would like to discuss at future gatherings. The Sherpa House is offering discounted dinners.
