Don’t forget tonight’s gathering at 6PM in Parfet Park to promote Tolerance and Unity. This event was organized in the wake of the Charlottesville, Virginia clash involving white supremacists, in which one counter-protester and two police officers died. The event has been organized by Golden United. The rally will include group singing led by members of the Golden Community Choir. Many people are willing to listen to and appreciate those whose beliefs are different from our own, that is, until those beliefs overstep decency and do not hold all humanity as equal. As images of violence once again flash across our screens, we can no longer be silent. Racists were not afraid to show their faces. People who do not agree with them must show our faces, too. Please share this invitation and bring signs that express unity. Please do not bring political signs. This rally is organized by Golden United, a non-partisan, residents-driven effort to engage the Golden area community across all walks of life to find common ground and act with respect and dignity to strengthen OUR community. Questions can be directed to Ron Benioff (benioffron@gmail.com).
There will also be a meeting at 6PM at the Community Center to discuss the planned changes to Washington Avenue north of downtown. Please join us next Tuesday, August 22 at 6 p.m. for the next meeting on the Washington Avenue Complete Street project. This project includes improvements on Washington Avenue between 10th Street north to Hwy 93. Based on input at previous public meetings and direction from City Council, we have completed design work and prepared a phasing plan. You can learn more about the project and view concept plans on our City Projects page. The design team would like your input on specific aesthetic treatments and landscaping. Note: this will not be an openhouse-style meeting, where you just wander in at any time. The doors will open at 6PM and a formal presentation will begin at 6:30.
