Golden Business News
Spirits in the Wind Gallery has a new owner! That’s all I know at this point, and I only know it because Pam Eggemeyer announced yesterday–on her personal Facebook page–that she was retiring, and it was her last day. Congratulations to Pam and Dennis, and welcome to the thus far unnamed new owner.
Golden History Moment
Ten days ago, I wrote about the Chatauqua programs that Golden hosted for several years in the early twenties. Last night, I came across this reminiscence by Helen Ljungvall Johnston, which appeared in A Woman’s Life in Golden.
Chautauquas were popular for several years. They were usually held on the Mines campus or sometimes in the Golden Opera House. Usually the talent was excellent in both their music concerts and stage plays. Once on a Sunday night, the play scheduled was entitled “It Pays to Advertise.” This was in the days when churches held services at night. On this particular night, a large sign appeared in front of the Presbyterian church. It read “It Pays to Advertise, but it pays better to keep the Lord’s day.” There was no performance at the Chautauqua that night.
If you enjoy Golden history, I recommend this book: A Woman’s Life in Golden. Written by the Members of the Pioneer Delphian Study Club. Edited by Lorraine Wagenbach. Published by the Golden History Museums, Golden, Colorado, 1980, reissued in 2010.
The Library has three copies, and they are offering curbside pickup! When they re-open, you can buy your own copy at the Golden History Museum.
