Ethics in Business

The Rotary Club of Golden is conducting the 18th annual Ethics in Business Awards program in 2023.  Each year the club seeks nominations from the public of those organizations in our community, both for-profit and not-for-profit, that demonstrate the highest standards of ethical business practice, integrity, and civic and social responsibility.

All nominations received by Feb. 28, 2023 will be evaluated by students in the Ethics class at the Colorado School of Mines.  They will choose the winners, who, along with all nominees, will be recognized and honored at an Awards luncheon on May 5, 2023 at the Sheraton Denver West hotel.   To make a nomination, go to ethics.goldenrotary.org/nominations-form/. This Ethics in Business Awards website also gives more details on the Ethics awards program, which has been an important and popular event since its founding in 2006.

Celebrating Heart and Soul of Golden Month:
Colorado Railroad Museum

The Iron Horse Motel, former neighbor to the Railroad Museum – click to enlarge

The Colorado Railroad Museum came to Golden in 1959, and the Iron Horse Hotel came with it. The Museum’s founder, Bob Richardson, used revenue from the Motel help fund the Museum.

The Iron Horse Development Corporation (of which Richardson was President) sold the motel in 1964. It continued in operation until the Museum was ready to expand in the late 1990s. At that time, the 40 year old motel was demolished. With the extra property, the Museum was able to build their roundhouse facility (where maintenance and restoration work takes place) and extend their track to form a complete loop.

The roundhouse now occupies the former Iron Horse Motel property. Google satellite image.
