5:30-7PM Zoning Code Rewrite Mapping Meeting (8th, 9th, 12th Street & Downtown Neighborhoods)
If you live in the 8th & 9th Street or 12th Street historic districts, or in the downtown neighborhoods, you should attend tonight’s meeting. The City is rewriting our zoning code, moving away from the long-established R-1, R-2, and R-3 designations into a series of new definitions. These new designations define what you and your neighbors can do with your property, so it’s important to study the changes and make sure you approve of the changes. Learn more….
6:30PM Downtown Development Authority Meeting @ City Hall
The DDA will consider grant requests from Visit Golden ($10K, in addition to the $15K budgeted under “Community Marketing Support”), Foothills Art Center ($20K), and the Golden Visitors Center ($25K). Staff will report on a project to work on downtown’s traffic signals, to improve the flow of traffic along Ford, Washington, and the cross streets.
Golden History Moment
The September 20, 1934 Colorado Transcript rejoiced over the number of visitors attracted to Golden by our indoor swimming pool. Many Denver companies had hosted pool parties, as had several Denver Boy Scout troops.
Locals were enjoying the pool too. Both Coors Brewery and Coors Porcelain had hosted parties at the pool, and the Transcript was sponsoring children’s parties every Saturday morning.
The tramway was offering special round-trip Sunday excursion fares, which had also helped attract visitors from Denver. The Transcript reported that the Sunday excursions were projected to bring more than 3,000 visitors by the end of September.
Thanks to the Golden History Museum for providing the online cache of historic Transcripts, and to the Golden Transcript for documenting our history since 1866!
